Why Aikido is better than carrying a gun

The pistol is seen as a great tool for personal protection. The police uses it, and so do many bodyguards. In some countries, even private citizens carry.

But carrying a gun does have its disadvantages:

Although the best option would be to both have a gun and know Aikido, if I had to choose, I would go for Aikido. It is safer, and I wouldn’t feel like I have the responsibility to intervene in third-party conflicts — when actually, it is not my problem.

People who carry have a bigger risk of getting killed than unarmed persons: it’s 4.5 times more likely (Callaway, 2009).

And that’s why Aikido is better than carrying a gun for self-protection.
