Why are we Obsessed with Large Phones?

I have recently switched phone from my old P10 to a newer Xiaomi model superior in virtually everything…

Except one thing.
Why is this phone so damn large?

The screen is so damn big that I have to slide the phone down my hand if I want to open the status bar on the top of the phone.

When I’m using reddit, I cannot select the top left subreddit without moving the entire phone, good design used to impose for the whole screen to be reachable by the thumb.

The IPhone family followed very closely this rule until the sixth installment,
not that I expected less from a company that always made design its priority.

This changed with the IPhone 6 and 6 Plus, both of these phones were susceptible to bending under pressure, like carrying them in tight pockets
(So half of the user-base?), the media, with the term Bend-Gate popularized this problem.

Apple was right in the end but they were not prepared accordingly to the new size they were selling.

Why were they right, You ask?
Because there is a market reasoning behind this choice.

It’s also true that the recent trends have influenced people to prefer bigger and bigger phones, it’s not that big of a deal for most buyers.

That’s an unfolded mystery at least.

I guess I will sub-consciously use my phone more often to see videos…

Keep this in mind next time you have to buy a bigger phone, prepare to subscribe to a bigger data-plan too.

P.S. The status bar is still bugging me.
