Six Things You Should Know Before You Enter The Hip Hop Scene

Do you have dreams to make it big in the Hip Hop scene? Well get in line. We spoke with a rising star on the Hip Hop scene, Antonio “KANIN” White, for him to share his advice on how to succeed in this tight market. Here was his advice.

I wish I was told that you have to know about business and music in order to be successful in this game. I had to learn the hard way from expecting other people to help me to wasting money in the wrong places and doing business with the wrong people. There’s a certain amount of business-savvy etiquette required in hip-hop, and when I was first starting out, I didn’t have that.

It’s important to keep healthy relationships throughout your career. Never burn your bridges, because you never know who you will run into again or who you may need for help along the way.

Always have a plan and commit to it wholeheartedly. Anything less than 100% is not worth the struggle. I experienced this when I lost a lot of time and money all due to me second guessing myself.

Work hard, play hard. I believe you should always strive for greatness, and as long as you’re handling business with the spirit of excellence you will secure the bag and complete the mission. Never allow yourself to get comfortable, but always allow yourself to get better. That’s when you can celebrate your successes.

Only do business with a “WIN WIN” attitude. In business, If both parties aren’t happy with the process and the way things are going, then the agreement will never work. I had to drop former friends and colleagues when I realized that our joint efforts were too uneven and I was not satisfied with the way they were trying to handle my artistry. Everyone has to be on the same page and happy with their part.

Give Back. I am still in the process of blessing the world and the people who mean the most to me. My plan is to give back to the youth through knowledge. Younger generations should be allowed to pursue their dreams. If we have a world of people doing what they all love, I think it has the potential to truly become a better place.
